about the film
"Dream Out Loud" was made by an ambitious filmmaking team, who both just happen to be lifelong U2 fans. The genesis of the film happened on April 23, 2001 when U2 played at the Anaheim Pond on the Elevation Tour. Director David Barry had a conversation with some young fans attending their first U2 show, and it sparked the idea that there was a film behind this very unique and generational relationship. For 15 years, that idea incubated until 2017 when U2 announced a tour to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of their seminal album ,“The Joshua Tree.”
Dave and Executive Producer Amanda McCune decided it was time to Dream Out Loud. They planned to interview 50 U2 fans in 5 cities along the tour. When U2 fans from around the globe answered the call to be interviewed, the boutique project grew to include more than 100 interviews in 25 cities in 5 countries.
Along the way, even more interviews were added, including Bono, and this very special film was literally willed into existence by our production team.
All documentary filmmaking is about answering questions. Who, what, when and where are easy to answer. Why and how are a bit more challenging. "Dream Out Loud" answers why and how this historic relationship has grown, and why and how it has impacted lives around the world, through intimate conversations with over 200 U2 fans ranging in age from 12-74 and representing 25 countries.
"Dream Out Loud" is a fascinating study in the power of music to change the individual, their community and impact the world.
